Leading Inverness-based estate agency and one of Scotland's top law firms

We operate one of the leading estate agency services in Inverness and the Highlands and Islands, while as one of Scotland's leading law firms, Harper Macleod advises businesses, organisations and individuals on all of their legal needs in Scotland, the UK and beyond.

We have specialist lawyers in all legal disciplines, covering every service you are likely to need in both your business and personal life. Allied to this, our in-depth industry knowledge allows us to add value to you whatever sector you operate in.

Harper Macleod has been named Scotland's Law Firm of the Year nine times, most recently recognised as the Scottish Firm of the Year at the Chambers UK Awards 2025. This reflects the passion and dedication we bring to everything we do. Because we’re driven by your needs, not ours, we’ll work harder to understand your requirements. Our people are flexible, proactive problem solvers, who use law as a tool to provide innovative and tailored solutions that deliver a better outcome for you, or for your business.

Our roots

With a home in Gairloch and strong links to the Highlands and Islands, it was no surprise when Chairman and founding Partner Lorne Crerar led the move for Harper Macleod to open an Inverness office in 2004. Since then, we have grown to have the largest legal team in the Highlands and Islands, and the biggest Scottish law firm with a permanent presence in region.

In 2012 we opened an office in Thurso and in 2015 moved into Shetland by joining forces with one of the isles' biggest firms, Dowle, Smith & Rutherford. In 2016 we doubled the size of our Inverness office, and added the firm of Allen & Shaw to our ranks in the city, giving us a team of almost 30 people in the Inverness office alone. By September 2019 we had extended our physical footprint into Moray, taking over local firm Wink & Mackenzie to cement our position as the leading law firm in the area.

Our team on the ground provides a full range of legal services to our clients in Inverness and the rest of the Highlands and Islands.

  • Andrea Ross was fantastic from start to finish. They kept in touch with me, updated me on any issues, replied promptly, and were really thorough. They were extremely approachable and made the whole process of buying and selling go really smoothly. I would highly recommend them and Harper Macleod, and will definitely use their services again in the future.

  • We have used Harper McLeod (Inverness) to undertake all legal work in selling our home in Inverness and buying in Aberdeen. From the outset, we have received excellent service—being professional, helpful, friendly, and simply on top of everything at all stages in the process. Susan Breen has been super. It is 40 years since we last sold and bought a house. Susan made it a pleasure in what otherwise could have been an ordeal. We cannot recommend Susan and Harper Macleod highly enough.

  • This was the first time we bought a house, and I think we would have been lost without Laura, our solicitor. She was amazing from day one—extremely knowledgeable, professional, and reachable. We found this company by reading reviews online, and we were so lucky to find her. We took a gamble as we were moving from England to Inverness and didn't know anything about Scottish laws or the purchasing process, but she made it so easy for us. She explained everything, had our backs when needed, and offered advice. I really felt she cared and was with us throughout the entire process. She made us trust the company she works for, and we will go there for any legal services in the future. Thank you again, Laura! It was a pleasure to work with you. You raised the standards of service we want to receive in the future.
